John Legend & the Roots will drop their collaborative album ‘Wake Up!’ on September 21. Its determined to be a pure cover album and will feature remakes of classic songs by artists including Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, Donny Hathaway and many more. The first single, ‘Wake Up Everybody’ is a rendition of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes’ 70ies classic, which also features Common and Melanie Fiona. We have had their cover of Ernie Hines classic “Our Generation” up on the site a few weeks back.

And its right up my alley… Love this Album all the way through. Its good music and it has that deep moody feel to it, excellent orchestration, classic verses, its not chasing any trends, it creates its own style and thats what hip hop always claimed for it itself… these cats simply do it.  One of the few vinyls that i bought (online though) in recent times. i know its not much of a review but there is gonna be at least one more pf our writers here on the blog talking about this album. check this tune out:

Damn, is this song good! A live version of the legendary Roots Crew covering Bob Dylans “Masters of War”. I had this one on repeat for a 2 full h.. I can only take my hats off to Bob Dylans masterpiece, nod my head agreeingly to the words and simply feel the music of this beautifully interpreted version.
